‘Great deal’ – Exclusive: Kevin Phillips reacts as West Brom hold talks over PL swap agreement
We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…
Kevin Phillips has claimed that West Brom would be getting the better of any swap deal that sees Oliver Burke leave for Sheffield United and Callum Robinson head in the opposite direction.
Speaking exclusively to West Brom News, the former Albion striker claimed that the Scotland international needs to leave The Hawthorns to kickstart his career, while the Blades forward proved he was a good fit for the Baggies during his loan spell in the Championship last season.
The Sun reporter Alan Nixon took to Twitter earlier in the week to suggest that the two clubs are holding talks over a possible swap deal for the two players.
And Phillips believes any such agreement would be more beneficial to the Baggies than the Blades.
When asked if Albion would be getting the better deal out of that potential arrangement by West Brom News, he said: “Yes, I would say so.
“I’ve spoken about Burke before, and unfortunately it just hasn’t worked. The key is for him to move to really kickstart his career.
“I think Robinson, as we saw, settled in very comfortably at West Brom, and again if you can get him and another one through the door, suddenly the squad looks a little stronger.
“I think for me, Albion would be getting a great deal if that were to happen.”
Since completing a £13.7 million move from RB Leipzig in 2017, Burke has scored just one goal in 24 outings for the Baggies.
By contrast, Robinson impressed during his spell with the club last season, and hit three goals and two assists in 16 Championship outings.
In other West Brom news, Albion are in talks over another forward’s potential exit.
