Leeds ace Kalvin Phillips sends three-word Insta message as player confirms West Brom exit

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has taken to Instagram to send a message to Jonathan Leko as he sealed his exit from West Brom.

The winger confirmed his switch from The Hawthorns on Friday as he completed a transfer to local rivals Birmingham City.

It is understood that the two clubs agreed a fee of around £1 million, with Leko penning a three-year contract.

Writing on his own Instagram account on Friday evening, the 21-year-old posted a photo of himself holding a Blues’ shirt alongside the caption: “I’m buzzing to have signed for Birmingham City. Can’t wait to get started

“Yeah I know I need a trim”.

Leeds ace Phillips then responded to the post with his own comment, saying: “Here he is!”

The fact that Leko is drawing reactions from the likes of Phillips shows that his exit from The Hawthorns is a pretty big deal.

The 21-year-old was hyped for a long time as a player who could genuinely make the step up to the first team for Albion, but ultimately, he always fell short of that mark.

In truth, it probably is the right time for Leko to move on from the Baggies.

After spending last season out on loan, he saw himself drop right down the pecking order for Slaven Bilic’s men, with the likes of Matheus Pereira and Callum Robinson both impressing during their respective loan spells.

Pereira has already signed a permanent deal at The Hawthorns, while Robinson also looks as if he too could be destined for a return to the club.

In fact, the only real bone of contention with this deal seems to be the price.

A number of West Brom fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment at Leko being sold for such a low fee, but on balance, it’s probably the right decision to allow him to move on.

In other West Brom news, Albion have upped their bid to sign this highly-rated player.
