One who has got his first chance of senior football in the upcoming season is midfielder Finn Azaz, who has joined Cheltenham.
Azaz will be looking to follow in the footsteps of Morton, who spent last season at Northampton in League Two.
The young forward fired them to promotion through the play-offs and earned himself a new contract at the Hawthorns.
If there was a perfect way to start your loan spell, it would be to score against near-rivals Wolves in pre-season.
Azaz has done just that, and even though it was against their under-23 side, he is still doing all of the right things at Cheltenham so far.
Slaven Bilic will be eager to keep giving these chances to his younger players, especially now opportunities will be limited.
Premier League football will see the Baggies look to strengthen their bench, meaning the younger options are much better out on loan in the football league.
Azaz has a break clause in his deal with Cheltenham, meaning either side can pull the plug on his loan in January – but if he continues in this manner, he’ll be staying put.
It’s the perfect start, but it will mean nothing if he doesn’t kick on once the competitive football begins next week in the EFL Trophy.
