West Brom could still offer new deal to out-of-contract 27y/o – journalist

West Brom fielded a number of players against Nottingham Forest that are facing uncertain futures at the Hawthorns.

The likes of Lee Peltier and Sam Field were named in the starting 11 in the 1-0 defeat despite being made available for transfer.

Many believed that Peltier had been released at the end of last season, with his contract running out after promotion to the Premier League.

Another player who saw his deal expire but still is around the squad is Jonathan Bond.

The keeper has been spotted in training with the Baggies around Sam Johnstone and Alex Palmer despite not having a contract.

Slaven Bilic has been in the market for a new keeper this summer, but he has already seen a number of his options go elsewhere.

This could benefit Bond.

The Athletic’s Steve Madeley has reported that West Brom could still offer Bond a new deal to remain as their number three in the Premier League.

The 27-year-old did not make a single appearance in the Championship for West Brom, with his only outings in both cup competitions last season.

Bond did feature for both Watford and Reading in the second-tier before moving to the Hawthorns but has not yet proved himself in the Premier League.

With the Baggies also closing in on Brighton stopper David Button, Bond would be no higher than third-choice at the club, who could give that spot to the promising Palmer instead.
