West Brom player reacts as Baggies youngster earns first senior call-up
West Brom defender Dara O’Shea has enjoyed a whirlwind year at the Hawthorns.
The young full-back couldn’t have imagined playing a massive role in promotion to the Premier League at the start of the season, but that’s exactly what he did.
Slaven Bilic wasn’t afraid to give him a chance, and he was rewarded by the right-back with some quality performances.
This year has just turned even better for O’Shea.
After initially being called up to the Republic of Ireland under-21s squad, the defender has now been given a massive boost.
Stephen Kenny has instead decided to give him the chance to be in the senior squad for the Nations League games next week.
Ireland will be facing Bulgaria and Finland, with O’Shea having a big chance to take another massive step in his career.
Rekeem Harper is one player who has been through the ranks with O’Shea at the Hawthorns, and he reacted to the news on Sunday.
“Dara O’Goat my bro man,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account.
O’Shea has been the Baggies’ second-best performer in the past year according to WhoScored, with only Matheus Pereira earning a higher average match rating.
It is highly unlikely that Bilic will go into the Premier League with O’Shea as his number one option at right-back, but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him feature at some point next season.
