View: West Brom could get answer in next week with striker set for meeting with club

West Brom have been strongly linked with Watford forward Troy Deeney.

The Telegraph reported that the Baggies have been offered the striker in a loan deal for the year, with the Hornets relegated to the Championship next season.

Watford beat Scunthorpe 1-0 on Sunday in a friendly, and there were no images of Deeney being involved at Vicarage Road.

Sky Sports’ Dharmesh Sheth shared an update on the Baggies pursuit of the forward, including a timescale on the next move.

“They remain interested in Watford striker Troy Deeney,” he said on the Transfer Show.

“Deeney and his representatives are expected to have a meeting with the Watford hierarchy this week.”

Previously, Sky Sports have reported that the Hornets are not actively looking to sell the striker, but a loan move could certainly be on the cards.

Given how long it has taken the Baggies to advance any negotiations this summer, it is a nice surprise to see that this one could progress in the next week.

There have been plenty of delays for the deals surrounding Cedric Kipre and Filip Krovinovic, so it would be a surprise to see Deeney join before the Premier League opener against Leicester.

This meeting could have a big saying on his future though, and he could come out of that knowing he wants to be at West Brom in the top-flight.

Our fingers are crossed that this meeting will help the Baggies rather than hinder them, with a striker desperately needed at the Hawthorns.
