‘Clearly no ambition’ – Many West Brom fans react to transfer update on 28y/o reported target
West Brom look as if they have lost the race to land Brighton defender Shane Duffy this summer.
The Baggies have been linked with a move for the 28-year-old for a while now, but it is understood that the Republic of Ireland captain has his heart set on a move to Scottish champions Celtic, according to the Daily Mail.
And many Albion supporters have taken to Twitter to voice their displeasure at missing out on the centre-back.
Or rather, many have expressed their disappointment at missing out on another target, and not necessarily at losing out on Duffy specifically.
With West Brom reportedly on the cusp of completing a deal for Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre, many seem to believe that he represents better value and has a higher ceiling of potential.
Certainly, at around £900,000, he looks as if he could be an absolute steal for the Baggies.
But that still doesn’t negate the fact that West Brom have missed out on another reported top flight target.
Albion desperately need to strengthen in a couple of key areas this summer, but at the moment it feels like we lack any real pulling power.
Yesterday, for example, we saw the club go from supposedly leading the race to sign Conor Gallagher on loan at Chelsea, to the player having a medical with Crystal Palace.
That could be a real concern for the Baggies.
Slaven Bilic clearly wants to bolster his ranks, but if he keeps on missing out on his transfer priorities, then sooner or later Albion are going to be left scraping the barrel – and that could spell trouble in the long-term for their survival hopes.
