‘Huge lift’ – WBA legend issues verdict on big boost that could give Albion ‘extra 10%’
West Brom legend Ally Robertson has claimed that his former club will receive a “huge lift” when fans are able to return to The Hawthorns.
The Baggies start their Premier League campaign against Leicester City in just under a fortnight, but will be playing their fixtures behind closed doors because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
And while Robertson is still confident that Albion can start the season brightly, he also believes that a passionate home support could provide a vital boost later in the campaign.
Speaking to the Express & Star, he said: “It’s exciting for the players to be in the Premier League and I think that adrenalin will help them through the first few games.
“But the Premier League is tough and there are obviously going to be times when we are under the cosh and the opposition will be on top. During those times the crowd really can give you an extra five or 10%, they help you keep going when you are digging in.
“It is horrible for the players playing behind closed doors without that support, but I know all Albion fans are desperate to get back to The Hawthorns and cheer on this team.
“When they are allowed back in I think they’ll give the players a huge lift.”
Everybody associated with West Brom, whether it be players, coaches, or fans themselves, will be desperate for supporters to return to The Hawthorns.
The Baggies will know that this coming season will be a huge challenge, and any extra boost they can gain, especially in the latter stages of the campaign, will be massively appreciated.
We saw fans inside a stadium for he first time since the pandemic broke during the friendly between Brighton and Chelsea last weekend.
Numbers were limited to around 2,500, but these are still positive first steps, and hopefully it could be a gateway to seeing more supporters in more grounds around the country in the coming weeks and months.
