West Brom hoping to agree smaller fee for £1m-rated PL keeper – journalist
West Brom have identified Brighton’s David Button as the keeper to offer more competition next season for Sam Johnstone.
Johnstone has completed every minute of the past two Championship seasons and Slaven Bilic is wanting a fresh face to bring more of a challenge.
John Percy of the Telegraph originally reported that the Seagulls were wanting a deal worth £1million for Button – relatively cheap in this market.
But, West Brom could be wanting that fee to be lowered even further.
Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi has claimed that the Albion are hopeful of agreeing a smaller deal for the keeper.
“The Seagulls want around £1million for the latter, though the Baggies are hoping to agree a lower fee,” he wrote.
It would be a real kick in the teeth for everyone at the Hawthorns should they miss out on Button, especially given his small price tag.
Masi detailed in the same report that Bilic will have around £20million to spend, so for the Baggies to be negotiating over a fee worth only 5% of that seems ridiculous.
West Brom are yet to make a new signing for their squad this summer, with Matheus Pereira remaining the only permanent addition.
With less than two weeks until the Premier League opener against Leicester City, the Baggies may not have time to start these strange negotiations – they need to act now.
