West Brom striker agrees new four-year deal at Hawthorns – Athletic journalist
West Brom striker Callum Morton enjoyed a phenomenal season in his first breakthrough year into senior football at Northampton.
The young forward fired the Cobblers to promotion via the play-offs to League One, scoring at Wembley in the convincing win over Exeter.
Slaven Bilic was impressed with what he saw from Morton and appeared eager to reward him for his successful spell away from the Hawthorns.
That time has come.
The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has reported on Tuesday that Morton has agreed to a new four-year deal with the Baggies.
Not only has he sealed his long-term future in the midlands, but the 20-year-old will also get another loan spell to go out and impress.
This time it will be in League One with Lincoln City, with former academy boss Michael Appleton in charge of the Imps.
Morton has followed a number of promising West Brom youngsters to extend their contracts in recent months.
The highly-rated duo of Rayhaan Tulloch and Rico Richards have also committed their long-term futures to the club too, much to the delight of fans.
Louie Barry did start a worrying trend of youngsters leaving the Albion before breaking through to the first-team when he moved to Barcelona, but that has proved that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
We’re delighted to see Morton agree to a new deal, and with another successful season out on loan, we could be seeing him in-and-around the first-team sooner rather than later.
