Centre-back visits West Brom as Baggies close in on deal – journalist

West Brom appeared to have hit a stumbling block in their pursuit of Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre.

It has been reported for nearly a week now that the Baggies had reached an agreement with the cash-strapped Latics for the 23-year-old.

Personal terms had been mentioned as something that were making the deal slow down, although they weren’t thought to be threatening.

Alan Nixon has reported on Tuesday that Kipre has visited West Brom through the day as he closes in on a move to the Hawthorns.

The Sun journalist admitted that he had not quite signed yet, but that he is clearly close to being revealed by the Baggies.

This is the news all Baggies fans wanted to hear, with deals for both Shane Duffy and Kris Ajer two targets that now appear unattainable.

The Daily Mail reported at the start of this week that West Brom will pay £900,000 for the French-Ivorian defender.

It is suggested that the Baggies have won the race ahead of a number of clubs, including Blackburn, with Slaven Bilic eager to add to his defence.

With Kipre set to join Semi Ajayi in defence, it leaves Kyle Bartley and Ahmed Hegazi fighting for the spot of rotation player.

One will likely leave between now and October, with Hegazi previously named as the “most-obvious” player to leave – expect many in and out in the next month.
