View: Confirmed deal could hand West Brom big boost in race to land hitman
Ask most West Brom fans and they will tell you that they need a new striker this summer.
One man who has been linked with a potential move to The Hawthorns is Watford captain Troy Deeney.
According to the Daily Mail, the Baggies have been offered the opportunity to sign the 32-year-old ahead of the new Premier League season, with The Telegraph suggesting that the forward would be available on a season-long loan deal.
And it would appear that the Hornets are already taking steps to facilitate Deeney’s exit from the club by ensuring that they have plenty of cover in attacking areas.
The recently-relegated club confirmed on Tuesday that they have completed a loan deal for Brighton centre-forward Glenn Murray.
At 36, the hitman has plenty of experience, and with 67 strikes in 143 Championship matches, he is clearly prolific enough to be the main man at Vicarage Road this season, assuming Deeney departs.
In fact, talkSPORT are already asking whether Murray has been brought in as a direct replacement for the skipper.
Truthfully, it’s hard not to see it that way.
Not only does Murray provide a serious goal threat, even in the latter stages of his career, but he also brings that same level of knowhow and leadership to the dressing room by virtue of his vast experience.
From a West Brom perspective, however, this is a really interesting development.
It seemed as if a move for Deeney was a realistic possibility as things stood, but now, with this Murray deal confirmed, the Baggies may have just been handed a major boost.
In other West Brom news, Albion have agreed a fee to re-sign this player on a permanent basis.
