West Brom to complete deal for 31-year-old in coming days – report

West Brom are closing in on a number of different transfer deals this week.

After having offers accepted for Wigan defender Cedric Kipre and West Ham winger Grady Diangana, it appears a goalkeeper could be first through the door.

The Baggies have been looking for strong competition for Sam Johnstone in the Premier League and appear to have found their man.

The Express and Star have reported that West Brom could complete a deal to sign Brighton keeper David Button in the “coming days”.

It is suggested that discussions have progressed quickly, and the 31-year-old is expected at the Hawthorns before this weekend.

John Percy of the Telegraph first reported that the Baggies were set to meet the £1million asking price set by the Seagulls, but there were last-minute attempts to change that.

In true West Brom style, it was then reported that they would like to pick Button up for even cheaper than that suggested fee.

Johnstone has completed every single minute of the past two Championship seasons at West Brom, and despite many mistakes during that, appears to have kept his place.

Button would offer much more experience behind Johnstone, a lot more than Alex Palmer and Jonathan Bond.

The 31-year-old has only ever featured heavily in the Championship but has been in-and-around the Brighton team in the top-flight since 2018.

For such a cheap fee as well, it appears that the Albion are closing in on a great option that is much-needed.
