‘110%’, ‘Get him in now’ – Many WBA fans react to ‘dream’ transfer report on 26y/o int’l

Many West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to react to speculation linking their club to a move for Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

According to a report on Wednesday, the Baggies have made an approach for the Belgian international as they look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Premier League season.

It is understood that Albion would be seeking a season-long loan for the player, with his current employers happy to let him leave Stamford Bridge this summer.

And many West Brom supporters are delighted by the prospect of him arriving at The Hawthorns.

The 26-year-old has struggled massively for minutes at Chelsea in recent times, and was limited to just one Premier League start last term – although he did make 15 league appearances coming on from the bench too.

That lack of action means that a summer exit feels like a bit of a no-brainer for the player, and Albion could do a lot worse than a Premier League striker with 16 goals in 29 international caps.

His stats make for impressive reading too.

The Belgian took more shots per game than Charlie Austin last season, as well has having a higher xG, a higher pass completion rate, a higher aerial duel win rate, and a higher total action success rate, as per Wyscout.

Perhaps most crucially, however, he scored 0.94 goals per 90 minutes compared to Austin’s 0.48.

In short, this feels like it would be a great deal for Albion, although it is also important to point out that Batshuayi has entered the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge.

Would Chelsea really be willing to let him out on loan when this summer is the last realistic point at which they could get some kind of transfer fee for him? We’re not so sure.
