Loan offer tabled for in-demand West Brom 26-year-old – report
Middlesbrough have tabled an offer to sign West Brom striker Kenneth Zohore on loan, according to TeamTalk.
The football news website reports that although the Baggies would rather sell the 26-year-old on a permanent basis so they can recoup as much of the £8million fee they paid for him last summer as possible, they are open to letting the Dane leave on loan.
Neil Warnock’s Middlesbrough appear to be the only club who have made a move to sign Zohore so far but TeamTalk adds that “there are a number of other interested parties”.
It is understood that Zohore has been told he is surplus to requirements at The Hawthorns after a debut season which saw him earn just five league starts for the Black Country club.
West Brom shelled out £8million to sign Zohore from Cardiff last summer – a club-record fee spent on a player while outside of the Premier League.
However, the Dane failed to live up to that tag as he fell behind Hal Robson-Kanu and Charlie Austin in the pecking order with his contribution to the club’s promotion from the Championship being very small.
Zohore did score a couple of important goals from the penalty spot back in August to earn points against Derby and Reading.
But a striker needs to do more than just be able to stick the ball in the back of the net from a spot-kick, which is why Robson-Kanu ended up starting way more Championship fixtures than the ex-Cardiff man.
Zohore’s clearly not up to scratch for the Premier League and if he does end up moving to Boro, we wish him all the best.
However, we would rather see the Dane leave permanently so Slaven Bilic’s transfer budget is boosted for this summer. But we understand why no one would be willing to splash the cash on the 26-year-old.
In other West Brom news, the club is in advanced talks to sign this centre-back.
