Times journalist details nature of £2m add-on included in West Brom deal to sign Diangana

There are conflicting reports emerging in the press about how much West Brom will pay to sign Grady Diangana from West Ham.

While it has been widely reported that the 22-year-old will undergo a medical with the Baggies today (Friday), it remains to be seen whether Albion are paying an up-front fee of £12million or £18million to re-sign the winger.

According to an update by Times journalist Gary Jacob, the Baggies have agreed an initial fee of £18million for Diangana but the deal could be worth £20million in total.

It is understood that West Brom will have to pay a £2million add-on to West Ham if they avoid relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that the initial fee for Diangana was £12million with add-ons that would take the deal up to £18million and the Express & Star has also reported the same.

Once the deal is done and dusted, there will hopefully be some clarity as to how much West Brom are paying up front for Diangana because there’s quite a difference between £12million and £18million – especially when Slaven Bilic’s transfer budget for this transfer window is reportedly £25million.

Bilic still needs to continue adding to his squad ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off in a week’s time.

Cedric Kipre’s move from Wigan was finalised on Friday while deals for Diangana, Filip Krovinovic and David Button are also said to be in the pipeline.

But the biggest deal that West Brom are yet to complete is one for a centre-forward who can score goals in the Premier League.

As of now, Bilic doesn’t have anyone like that in his squad, which is why it is hard to believe that so much of his budget for this window has been plouged into re-signing Diangana from West Ham.

Still, it’s a good piece of business by the Baggies after the stunning campaign Diangana had on loan at The Hawthorns in the Championship but there might not be much left over to bring in a top-quality striker the fans are begging for.

In other West Brom news, Albion have held talks about potentially signing this free agent.
