Done deal: 27-year-old signs new West Brom contract
Jonathan Bond has agreed a new contract with West Brom to extend his stay at The Hawthorns for a further year, it has been announced.
Bond, 27, has been out of contract since the end of last season but continued to train with the Baggies as they assessed their goalkeeper options ahead of 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
On Friday, West Brom announced on Twitter that David Button had been signed from Brighton while it was also confirmed that Bond’s deal had been extended until the end of the upcoming season.
Bond joined West Brom two years ago but has only made seven appearances in all competitions due to Sam Johnstone’s grip on the number one jersey.
We would imagine that Johnstone will remain as Slaven Bilic’s first-choice goalkeeper in the Premier League with Button second in the pecking order and Bond dropping down to third.
Alex Palmer left The Hawthorns to join Lincoln on a season-long loan earlier this week.
After a year of League One football, Palmer could return to the Black Country next summer and become a part of the club’s first-team plans because that will coincide with Bond’s new deal expiring.
Bond has hardly impressed West Brom supporters in his time at The Hawthorns.
In the FA Cup defeat to Newcastle last season, he had a shocker in goals as the Magpies won 3-2 at The Hawthorns.
Although he’s not the most solid of goalkeepers, he’s still a decent option to have as third-choice.
In other West Brom news, Albion have also agreed a new deal with a striker.
