West Brom set to complete another signing after friendly v Brighton – report
West Brom and Brighton are set to have a busy Saturday together.
The two sides will meet at the AMEX Stadium this afternoon, as they both complete their final pre-season friendly before the Premier League gets underway.
After that, they should then finalise a deal which sees Seagulls stopper David Button complete his move to the Hawthorns.
The Birmingham Mail have reported that it is “increasingly likely” that the Button deal will be completed once the game is completed on the South Coast.
Slaven Bilic is bringing in the experienced keeper in hopes that he can offer serious competition for Sam Johnstone, who has completed every minute of the last two seasons.
The Telegraph reported that the Baggies will be securing the services of Button for only £500,000 – an absolute bargain after the club-record fee spent on Grady Diangana.
It was widely reported that the initial cost was double that at £1million, so Luke Dowling has clearly worked his magic on this deal.
Bilic is working in overdrive to make sure he has efficient squad depth for next season, with his defence and goalkeeping ranks now sorted.
The cheap deals for the likes of Button and Cedric Kipre will allow him to go out and splash the cash on a new striker – with a multi-million-pound bid for Karlan Grant already rejected by Huddersfield.
Button has been in-and-around the Premier League with Brighton ever since joining back in 2018, the only negative is his lack of exposure.
The 31-year-old has only made four top-flight appearances, but he will still bring a wealth of Championship experience compared to Alex Palmer.
The clock is ticking.
