West Brom agree deal in principle to sign forward – report
West Brom have agreed a deal in principle to re-sign Callum Robinson from Sheffield United with Oliver Burke going the other way, according to the Mirror.
The newspaper reported on their live transfer blog on Sunday [03:22pm] that Sheffield United are close to securing three new signings with Derby duo Jayden Bogle and Max Lowe heading to Bramall Lane for a combined £15million fee.
The Blades are also close to signing West Brom flop Burke as part of a swap deal involving Robinson, who spend the second half of last season on loan at Bramall Lane.
Sky Sports had reported that the Baggies were still in discussions with the Yorkshire club about a fee also being involved to level out the swap deal.
However, this update by Mirror journalist David Anderson suggests that an agreement has been reached – albeit in principle – which means that obstacle has been overcome.
If West Brom are having to pay a small fee as part of this swap deal then we can totally understand that because Robinson was brilliant on loan at The Hawthorns last season.
The Republic of Ireland forward scored three goals and supplied two assists in his 16 appearances for Albion, with one of those goals coming on the final day of the season in the promotion-clinching 2-2 draw with QPR.
We don’t expect Robinson to be a regular starter for Slaven Bilic and it’s likely that he will be playing a squad role in the Premier League.
But we would rather have someone who’s proven himself at The Hawthorns playing that role over Burke, who has done very little of note since his £15million switch to the Black Country from RB Leipzig three years ago.
