Darren Moore wins race to sign highly-rated West Brom forward on loan – reliable journo
Darren Moore has won the race to sign West Brom forward Rayhaan Tulloch on loan at Doncaster Rovers, according to Steve Madeley.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, The Athletic journalist said that Fleetwood and Swindon were also keen on landing the highly-rated 19-year-old but ex-Baggies boss and player Moore is now set to seal a season-long loan for the attacker.
It is understood that Moore’s links to The Hawthorns has helped him sign Tulloch with Slaven Bilic, Luke Dowling and loans manager Paul Terry all trusting the former defender to work with youngsters.
You can see why Moore was trusted.
Not only did Moore manage the West Brom first-team in the Premier League and Championship, he also coached in the Baggies’ Under-18s and Under-23s, while also chipping in with helping out the younger age groups.
Speaking to The Coaches Voice, the Doncaster manager said: “West Brom’s academy went into minute detail in terms of coaching. That’s what made it the perfect place for me to develop as a coach.
“It gave me the opportunity to work not only with the Under-18s but also with the Under-23s and the first team. And, every week, I’d also do some position-specific work with the younger ones – Under-12s, 13s and 14s.”
Tony Pulis then gave Moore the chance to work with the first-team and two sackings later, ‘Big Dave’ was in charge at The Hawthorns.
Every West Brom fans will trust Moore with Tulloch, who is one of the most highly-rated young players on the books in the Black Country.
Last season, the England youth international scored nine goals in 14 appearances in Premier League 2 while also playing three times in Bilic’s first-team in the FA Cup.
Former England Under-17s coach Steve Cooper, speaking to The Athletic, has even gone as far to compare Tulloch to the likes of Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Cooper said: “Rayhaan was, on his day, a really big threat — very direct and able to turn a game through his skill and athleticism. He could play a number of positions.
“He was the type of lad you had to put your arm around and tell him he could do things. He wasn’t one to be too demanding with.
“He’s quick and the type of player that’s broken through a lot recently — like Jadon Sancho and Callum Hudson-Odoi. I’m not saying he’s at that level but he’s that type of player that could quickly change a game through an explosive movement, a quick dribble or a run in behind and that can have quite an impact on a game.”
Moore has himself a great young player in Tulloch, who we hope will get plenty of game-time in League One and return to The Hawthorns in time for next season, when he might be able to break into the first-team on a more permanent basis.
