Exclusive: West Brom have battle on their hands to sign ‘Exciting’ £7m-rated left-back – pundit

We’re delighted to welcome former West Brom striker Kevin Phillips as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at The Hawthorns…

Albion “have a battle on their hands” to sign Brentford left-back Rico Henry, according to former striker Kevin Phillips.

West Brom News exclusively revealed last month that Brentford have offered Henry, 23, a new contract in a bid to fend off interest from the Baggies.

Sky Sports had reported [via SussexLive] that Henry was valued at £7million by Brentford with him linked with Brighton and Aston Villa as well as the Albion.

Phillips believes Henry would be a smart addition to Slaven Bilic’s squad, especially for the price tag that’s reportedly on his head.

“Yes, that would definitely be good value for money. £7million nowadays is nothing,” the pundit told West Brom News. “He’s an exciting full-back who loves to get forward and he could slot in well at West Brom.

“Of course, there’s always that gamble of whether or not he could step up [to the Premier League] and play against a better class of opposition but he’s quick.

“West Brom will have a battle on their hands with two or free other clubs to get him through the door so it will be interesting to see how that goes.”

West Brom’s Kieran Gibbs has been linked with an exit before the end of the transfer window but no one has come in for him so far and he started in the friendly draw with Brighton on Saturday.

Unless Gibbs is moved on, we doubt that the Baggies will make a concrete move to sign Henry, who could be a pricey signing considering the club’s restricted transfer budget.

In other West Brom news, Darren Moore has won the race to sign this Baggies forward.
