‘Hell no’, ‘Disrespect is unreal’ – Many WBA fans urge to club to keep ‘vital’ ace this summer

Many West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express how strongly they believe that their side should keep Kieran Gibbs this summer.

The former Arsenal man is one of Albion’s only senior options at left-back going into the new Premier League season, with no concrete signs as of yet that they plan to bolster Slaven Bilic’s choices in that position.

It was initially reported earlier this summer that the Baggies intended to offload Gibbs in an effort to cut their wage bill.

Similarly, there have been suggestions that Albion are keeping tabs on Brentford full-back Rico Henry, although West Brom News exclusively revealed that the Bees have offered the defender a new deal to fend off interest from elsewhere.

More recently, however, The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has gone on record claiming that Gibbs will be Bilic’s first choice left-back this season, and is expected to hold down a starting spot, provided he can stay fit.

And that would presumably be a popular decision with many fans.

During a recent discussion about the prospect of Gibbs being allowed to leave on Twitter, many made it painstakingly clear that they believe the best course of action to take with the 30-year-old was for Bilic to put his faith in the 10-cap England international and give him a run in the side.

It’s hard to disagree with that viewpoint either, although if he is to be a valuable asset for the Baggies next term, he needs to remain injury free.

Gibbs was limited to just 14 Championship outings in 2019/20, and the last thing that West Brom can afford right now is to have such a key player drop in and out of the side so regularly over the course of a top flight season.
