‘Load of rubbish’, ‘Stay clear’ – Many WBA fans destroy emerging transfer link with defender
We all thought that West Brom had finished with their pursuit of defenders in this window, but it appears not.
The Baggies have now been linked with a shock move for former Chelsea and Zenit defender Branislav Ivanovic.
Championat journalist Andrey Pankov has reported that the Albion are negotiating a potential move for the free-agent to move to the Hawthorns.
Pankov claimed that talks are underway for the right-back who has won the Premier League and Champions League during his time playing in England.
The 36-year-old made 377 appearances for Chelsea and 125 for his previous club Zenit as he looks for his next and potentially final club.
Ivanovic would surely want to be on huge wages at his next club, similar to the ones he will have had at Chelsea and Zenit, and West Brom aren’t just throwing cash at players.
Luke Dowling has been smart with his transfer dealings so far, and this deal for the Serbian wouldn’t make any sense, no matter how much experience he has.
With Darnell Furlong and Dara O’Shea both impressing last season, it is highly likely that one of those two will be the number one choice in the Premier League.
Many West Brom fans have responded to the links, with the majority of those claiming that it would make zero sense to sign Ivanovic.
One even went as far as to suggest that the 36-year-old had “lost his legs” four years ago, suggesting he wouldn’t be up for the Premier League again physically.
