John Percy: West Brom could sign new player in next 48 hours, talks ongoing

Branislav Ivanovic could sign for West Brom in the next 48 hours, according to John Percy.

The former Chelsea defender and Premier League winner emerged as a target for the Baggies on Wednesday, and it would appear that discussions over a potential transfer back to England are moving at quite a pace.

Ivanovic is a free agent after his contract with Zenit St. Petersburg expired this summer.

And Percy has delivered a positive update on his future plans.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, he said: “West Brom to continue talks with Chelsea legend Branislav Ivanovic over a move to the Hawthorns.

“Ivanovic could sign for the season in the next 48 hours.

“Last played in the Premier League in December 2016.”

This would definitely be an eye-catching move.

Ivanovic is a player of vast experience and West Brom could certainly do with bringing in defensive reinforcements this summer.

He’s hardly a spent force either, having played 25 times in the Russian league just last season.

The Serbia international has won it all at club level, and a little bit of that elite pedigree certainly wouldn’t go amiss at The Hawthorns.

Some fans seem sceptical about the deal, but bringing in a player of that quality on a free transfer, even as a short term solution, could prove to be a very smart piece of business.
