West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express their disdain for Lee Peltier being handed a new deal by the club. 

The 33-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the club for the 2020/21 campaign, as confirmed by the Baggies on Friday morning.

But many fans have been left more than a little bemused by the news.

It’s not hard to see why either.

Peltier joined Albion in the January transfer window, and as yet has not featured for the first team.

Moreover, there are strong suggestions that the club are set to swoop for free agent Branislav Ivanovic in the coming days.

Given the choice between a triple Premier League winner and a player whose last club was Cardiff City, we know which one we would rather have.

That’s not to say that Peltier can’t prove us all wrong and make a real go of things for Albion this season.

After all, it’s hard to judge a player we’ve never even seen in a West Brom shirt.

But at the same time, it’s hard to imagine anything too special from him either.

Here’s hoping that Peltier has been handed this extension to act as a last resort option, rather than as a signifier of Bilic’s intent to give him an increased role.
