‘Criminally underrated’ – Many WBA fans blown away by ‘Fantastic’ 24y/o v Leicester
West Brom returned to the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, welcoming Leicester City to the Hawthorns.
The Baggies don’t have a great record against the Foxes usually but started brightly in a new system adopted by Slaven Bilic.
Leicester took the lead through Timothy Castagne in the second half, and Jamie Vardy struck from the spot twice, with the Albion losing 3-0 in their opener.
One of the players to benefit from the change in the system was Darnell Furlong, who was given the nod down the right.
With Bilic playing three at the back, Furlong was pushed into a wing-back role further forward and that suited his dynamic style in and out of possession.
The 24-year-old completed three tackles in the first half and even had a shot on goal as he caused constant problems for James Justin in the Foxes defence [WhoScored].
Furlong got in behind consistently and interlinked with Matheus Pereira perfectly who was pushed into a wider role with three up top.
With Dara O’Shea playing more centrally in a back three, it gives Furlong his own role in the side with little-to-no competition at the Hawthorns.
Performances like Sundays will leave Bilic comfortable that he doesn’t need too much competition, with Furlong more than capable of making it his own throughout the season.
Many West Brom fans were delighted with Furlong’s performance against Leicester, with one even claiming he is “criminally underrated.”
