Slaven Bilic makes transfer decision on rarely-seen WBA ace with clubs interested
West Brom midfielder Sam Field earned a rare start on Wednesday as the Baggies destroyed Harrogate Town 3-0 at the Hawthorns.
Slaven Bilic made 10 changes in the Carabao Cup, with Field and Rekeem Harper replacing the heavily-used duo of Romaine Sawyers and Jake Livermore.
Field has been heavily linked with an exit this summer, after spending last season on loan at the struggling Charlton.
The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley has shared an update on Field’s future, claiming he has been told he will be staying with the Baggies.
Bilic commented on the midfielder after his cameo performance in the win over Harrogate and backed up those claims.
“I spoke to Sam the other day and told him that he gives us something that we don’t have from other players,” he said.
“He is very good in the defensive phase of the game. That’s why I told him he is staying with us.”
Coventry have been registered with the biggest interest, with reports claiming that the Championship side has made an approach for the 22-year-old.
That isn’t on the cards now though, with Field well and truly in the plans of Bilic.
How did Field fare against Harrogate?
Only two players made more passes on the pitch than Field, who completed 60 passes in the heart of midfield according to WhoScored.
The 22-year-old won three of his aerial battles too but did pick up a yellow card for a reckless challenge after failing to get ahead of his man.
With Conor Gallagher arriving on loan, and Filip Krovinovic potentially joining him at the Hawthorns, Field could be too far down the pecking order to make an impact though.
