‘Rush of blood’ – MOTD pundit slams Mike Dean for ‘bad decision’ in Everton defeat
Danny Murphy has questioned Mike Dean for his decision to send off West Brom boss Slaven Bilic at half-time against Everton.
West Brom were swept aside 5-2 at Goodison Park despite impressing in Merseyside when having 10 men in the clash.
The Croatian was given his marching orders for questioning the referee’s decision to send off Kieran Gibbs without checking VAR.
Murphy claimed that Bilic had to go across the pitch and that Dean had a rush of blood before making the decision to hand out a second red card.
“First and foremost, he had to go across the pitch because they’re changing in a different place,” he said on Match of the Day.
“He asked him to stop just so he can have a word, he didn’t swear – I’ve listened to it over and over, he’s asking him to look at it again when gets the opportunity.
“I think Mike Dean rushed, I think he got a rush of blood and he pulled out the red, I think it was a bad decision and one he could have avoided.”
Peter Walton, a referee expert on BT Sport claimed during the coverage of the game that managers were not allowed to approach the officials on the pitch anymore.
As Murphy said though, where was Bilic meant to go? He had to pass Dean and his officials with the Baggies dressing rooms in the far corner of Goodison Park.
Looking at the transcript of the conversation, the Albion boss did nothing wrong and was simply asking a question of Dean, who clearly didn’t like the confrontation.
The Premier League is different to the Championship, and the Baggies continue to learn that with each game they play – mistakes are being punished, although this one should have been avoided.
