West Brom hold talks about signing £80,000-a-wk Leicester player – Sky Sports
West Brom have held talks about potentially signing Leicester City forward Islam Slimani, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster reported via their live transfer blog on Saturday [6:36pm] that Slimani, 32, is in the final year of his contract at Leicester and has emerged on the radar of the Baggies as they aim to sign a new centre-forward.
However, it is understood that after holding discussions with the Foxes, Albion have focused their attention on other targets.
Slimani joined Leicester four years ago but has only made 46 appearances in all competitions for the East Midlands outfit, scoring 13 goals in the process.
He’s been sent out on loan to both Newcastle, Fenerbahce and Monaco, which is where he spent last season and scored nine goals in 18 Ligue 1 appearances.
One of those goals came against Paris Saint-Germain but we cannot help but feel massively underwhelmed if the Algerian is seen by Luke Dowling and Slaven Bilic’s saviour as they aim to sign a new striker.
The former Sporting CP player has only scored eight goals in 39 Premier League appearances across his spells at Leicester and Newcastle.
He’s clearly not in Brendan Rodgers’ plans and with Spotrac reporting he’s earning £80,000-a-week on his contract at the King Power, he could also be an expensive addition to West Brom’s wage bill.
Slimani’s not been anything special in the last four years and at the age of 32, he’s unlikely to become anything special either.
We’d rather see Albion sign a younger striker like Karlan Grant or if they want someone more experienced up front, at least the likes of Troy Deeney have proven they can score big goals in the Premier League.
