Report: Major striker development as player dropped from side amid big West Brom interest
Rennes striker Mbaye Niang wants to join West Brom, following a row with his current club.
According to The Sun, the striker has had a ‘major row’ with Rennes and is pushing for a loan move to the Baggies.
The Senegalese forward was left out of the Rennes squad in their match against Monaco this weekend, as the 25-year-old looks to force a move back to the Premier League.
Sun journalist Alan Nixon previously reported on his personal Twitter account that West Brom are keen on the move, and now it seems that Niang is equally as interested.
The Baggies have already made some quality additions in this transfer window, with the captures of Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira getting their first goals as permanent West Brom players against Everton.
But Slaven Bilic’s priority this summer has always been to sign a striker with Premier League experience, with Ex-Watford forward Niang fitting that bill.
Callum Robinson led the line once again in West Brom’s defeat against Everton on Saturday, and Charlie Austin was left out completely as the Baggies are yet to see one of their strikers score in their opening two Premier League fixtures.
Karlan Grant has been continuously linked with a move to the Hawthorns all summer, but the Terriers are holding firm on their valuation, which the Baggies are struggling to afford.
A loan deal for Niang makes sense then, with transfer funds being a real issue for West Brom, following the capture of Diangana, which took a sizeable chunk out of the Baggies kitty.
It looks like Niang could be loaned out for the sixth time since 2013, as the Bilic looks to secure a new striker to help keep his side in the Premier League.
If these reports are accurate, with both the club and the player wanting the move, it could be an ideal and easy move for the Baggies, if they fail to sign Grant.
