‘Out of his depth’, ‘Liability’ – Some WBA fans blast player at HT despite shock lead v Chelsea

Romaine Sawyers has been slammed by West Brom fans for his performance in the first half of the clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

Although the Baggies went into the break with a shock 3-0 lead due to a Callum Robinson brace and a tap-in by Kyle Bartley, there will still plenty of supporters who were not impressed by Sawyers’ performance in the midfield.

It’s nothing new either.

Sawyers’ performances have been sub-par since the Premier League season kicked off earlier this month and offered very little in defeats against Leicester and Everton.

The former Brentford playmaker did lose the ball a few times in the opening 10-15 minutes of the clash at The Hawthorns but he did get better and better as the game went on and started to look a lot more fluid on the ball.

That didn’t stop some Albion fans from hammering him for his performance, though. With one saying that the club’s academy product is a “liability”.

We weren’t expecting to see any West Brom players getting slammed on Twitter after such an outstanding first-half display by the Baggies.

Sawyers did, admittedly, lose the ball a few times in the early stages but there were a lot of knee-jerk reactions to that happening.

If it was Matheus Pereira, Grady Diangana or Semi Ajayi losing the ball, would there have been the same reaction?

Sawyers’ recent form means there’s a target for criticism on his back but let’s hope he can keep the critics quiet after the break and help the Baggies win.

In other West Brom news, Paul Merson has slammed the Baggies for signing this player.
