West Brom fans have taken to social media to express their disbelief at Semi Ajayi’s turn of pace.
A viral clip of the big centre-back was posted all over Albion Twitter in the aftermath of the 3-3 draw against Chelsea on Saturday evening.
In it, the Nigeria international shows off his blistering speed in a foot-race with Blues left-back Marcos Alonso.
Ajayi starts a substantial distance behind the Spaniard, but in the end he has the beating of him so soundly that the full-back is forced to foul him.
It’s certainly an impressive sight to see such a big man shift in the way that Ajayi does, and it even had some fans comparing him to Usain Bolt.
That pace could prove to be a wonderful weapon for Albion this term.
The likelihood is that when he is fit Branislav Ivanovic will come into the starting XI for Slaven Bilic’s men.
The Serbia international has plenty of positive traits to his game, but at 36, pace is definitely not one of them.
Having a somebody with Ajayi’s engine alongside him and covering any tricky balls in behind might, therefore, be a necessity.
Judging by this absurd clip, there are few strikers in the Premier League who will be able to outpace the West Brom stopper, and that’s without taking into account his imposing physical stature.
Ajayi should be a real asset for Albion this season.
