Reliable journalist: West Brom want to sign big-money international attacker who has real pace

West Brom want to sign 25-year-old Metz striker Habib Diallo on loan, according to The Sun’s transfer expert Alan Nixon.

He claims that the rapid striker would command a big loan fee but that would come off the price if they made his signing permanent.

Nixon made the claim on his personal Twitter account on Sunday morning.

This comes after it was reported that Diallo was being offered on loan with a £6m fee by Sky reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Big gamble

Diallo has come up through the ranks at Metz and while he’s won four caps for Senegal, he’s never played domestic football outside of France.

He turned heads in the 18/19 season when his 26 goals in 37 games fired Metz into Ligue 1. However, his output more than halved in the step up to Ligue 1 the next season.

The step up to the Premier League would represent another big shift in class for the 25-year-old striker.

A loan deal obviously suits the West Brom budget at the moment but £6m is a massive amount of money for a temporary deal.

If the worst happened and West Brom were relegated, it would mean a huge outlay for a single season that didn’t work out for Diallo.

If he’s a hit and West Brom get an option to sign him then it would work, with the money coming off his fee.

That seems like too much of a risk for us and Karlan Grant is still the player we want to see sign.
