Nate Silver predicts West Brom clash with Southampton, shares chances of Baggies win
West Brom travel to Southampton on Sunday afternoon looking to pick up their first three points of the Premier League season.
The Baggies threw away three points against Chelsea last week, drawing 3-3 after being three goals to the good at the Hawthorns.
Southampton have endured a slow start to the season, losing their first two games, but they did pick up a win against Burnley last time out.
Prediction expert Nate Silver has shared the chances of each side winning at St. Mary’s on Sunday, with the home side clear favourites.
Silver has claimed that the Saints have a 56% chance of picking up all three points. The draw is also more likely than an away win.
It is suggested that there is a 24% chance of a draw, with the Baggies standing a 20% chance of earning their first win on the South Coast.
West Brom aren’t facing the toughest test according to the FiveThirtyEight website though, with Leeds only having a 9% chance of beating Manchester City.
Coming off the back of the Chelsea draw, although it ended badly, confidence will still be high that the Baggies can cause problems for everyone in this division.
Southampton may have kept a clean sheet against Burnley, but they have already conceded six goals – including five in their last home game against Spurs.
Bilic and his side will be analysing that knowing that the Saints were vulnerable to fast attackers and balls over the top – something which could see the likes of Grady Diangana and Callum Robinson capitalise.
20% isn’t a big chance, but we’re confident that the Baggies have a better opportunity than that for their first three points of the season.
