‘Oh god’, ‘Please no’ – Many West Brom fans react to John Percy transfer report

West Brom fans have taken to social media to voice their concerns over the Baggies making a potential move for Leicester City striker Islam Slimani.

John Percy of the Telegraph reported on Tuesday that Albion had made an inquiry over a potential loan deal for the 32-year-old, who spent last season on loan with French outfit AS Monaco.

But supporters were anything but thrilled by the update, and it’s not hard to see why.

The Algeria international joined the Foxes in August in 2016, but has gone on to make just 39 Premier League appearances for them, registering a fairly paltry eight goals.

His record in France was a little better last term, and he averaged a strike every two matches in Ligue 1, as well as seven assists in 18 appearances.

But the Baggies are in desperate need of a striker who can keep them afloat this term, and you have to ask yourself whether moving for a 32-year-old who has been comprehensively ousted by Leicester is the kind of gamble we want to be taking at such a crucial moment.

Moreover, a loan deal for Slimani is surely off the table.

Premier League rules state that a club cannot register more than two loanees at any given time.

With Connor Gallagher and Filip Krovinovic both through the door, it means that a permanent deal is the only way that Slimani could arrive at The Hawthorns.

That would be a costly risk to take, and we really hope that Slaven Bilic instead manages to land his priority target – Huddersfield Town hitman Karlan Grant.
