‘We need him’ – Bilic claims WBA player who spent 19/20 out on loan has role to play in PL

West Brom manager Slaven Bilic has said that Sam Field has a part to play in the Baggies’ season, and he won’t be letting the midfielder leave the Hawthorns on loan.

Field spent last season on loan at Charlton Athletic, but the Croatian boss has said that Field will be of use to him this season as he plots to keep Albion in the Premier League.

The manager has said that Field will get minutes this season, and described him as a “very important member” of the West Brom squad.

Speaking to the Express and Star Bilic said: “I never said that Sam was going to go, it depended on the budget, I’m not going to lie.

“But I believe in him so much. I wouldn’t have kept him if he wasn’t going to get minutes or chances in the squad to play.

“I never said during pre-season he would go. On the contrary, I told him we need him and that he gives us something we don’t have in a midfielder.

“That can be very useful for us so I see Sam as a very important member of the squad.”

Boyhood Baggies fan Field made his debut for West Brom as a late substitute against Liverpool in 2016, and has gone on to make 31 appearances for the first team.

Coventry Live reported last month that Field would be allowed to leave on loan again, with the Coventry City reportedly interested in loaning the player.

But that seems to have changed, with Field getting his chance to make an impact in the Premier League.

Field is yet to start in the top flight this term, however, only playing 15 minutes away at Goodison Park, and coming off the bench in injury time vs Chelsea.

But he played the full 90 minutes in both of Albion’s games in the Carabao Cup, as they beat Harrogate Town, then lost to Brentford on penalties.
