West Brom handed blow in striker pursuit as talks stall – Telegraph
West Brom are still in the market for another striker as they enter the final week of the transfer window.
The Baggies’ number one target remains Huddersfield’s Karlan Grant, although a deal continues to prove tricky.
With that deal continuing to be a struggle, the Albion and Slaven Bilic have also targeted some options from European clubs.
The Sun journalist Alan Nixon first reported midway through September that West Brom were very keen on a loan move for Rennes forward M’Baye Niang.
Nixon claimed that the only hurdle was the fee that the Baggies would pay the French club to take their prized-forward for the season.
That appears to have become a bigger problem, with the Telegraph reporting that talks between the two have stalled.
Where does this leave the striker hunt?
The Telegraph backed up claims that Grant remains the priority, although the time will come where the Albion will need to look elsewhere.
Another named mentioned once again is Watford’s Troy Deeney, who remains a “serious” option to join on loan during this window.
With Niang talks stalling, it appears a move for a forward in the EFL is more likely – something which benefits West Brom.
There is an extended deadline for Premier League and EFL clubs to complete deals between each other, meaning there is an extra 11 days to complete deals – they must take advantage of that.
