Report – West Brom table eight-figure bid for player, decision reached

West Brom have had a bid of £11 million rejected for Rennes striker M’Baye Niang, according to Italian outlet TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Baggies were first linked with a move for the 25-year-old by The Sun reporter Alan Nixon last month, with the journalist claiming that Albion were “very keen” on completing a loan deal for the hitman.

Since then, The Telegraph have suggested that talks have stalled between the two clubs, but it would appear that Slaven Bilic’s men are trying to make headway once again.

TMW suggest that the Baggies have made an eight-figure offer for the player, but have been knocked back by his current employers.

It is understood that Rennes are holding out for a figure closer to £13.75 million.

If this is true, it’s an interesting development.

Niang is a name that has been bandied about for some time in relation to a move to The Hawthorns, but it has always been understood that Karlan Grant is the priority for Albion in the closing days of the transfer window.

This update would cast some doubt over that, especially after French football expert Jeremy Smith suggested that Niang “could well leave” Rennes before the deadline passes.

Could this be a signifier that West Brom have given up on Grant and are instead turning their attentions to a cheaper option whose club is more likely to willingly part ways with him?

Only time will tell, but the plot has certainly thickened.

In other West Brom news, the Baggies have been offered the chance to sign this Ligue 1 striker on loan for £6million.
