Slaven Bilic shares plans for Callum Robinson with WBA wanting new forward
West Brom forward Callum Robinson got his first two goals of the season on Saturday in the 3-3 draw against Chelsea.
The Republic of Ireland international has been moved central since arriving on a permanent deal from Sheffield United – ahead of Hal Robson-Kanu.
Slaven Bilic has still made it clear that he would like another forward though, with Karlan Grant of Huddersfield his main target.
Where does that leave Robinson? Bilic claims he now classes Robinson as his main striker, something that could soon change.
“We have up there quality players but they are a different type of player and that is why he played that position,” he said via Birmingham Live.
“He can cover both positions – on the wings and upfront and we are going to mix him in those positions, but now I treat him as a striker who can play on the wing. I’m not treating him as a winger who can play as a striker.
“He is not a natural striker but he has the attributes to play there. He is mobile, he can run, he can sprint, he can stretch a defence and he is a really good finisher – he showed that on Saturday.”
This definitely boosts Robinson’s chances of keeping his spot in the front three initially should the Baggies add another striker.
If Robinson continues to find the back of the net, he will keep his spot – that is the main goal that is facing him moving forward.
The 25-year-old had three shots against Chelsea, and two of them went in. Despite that being impressive, he will have to find a way to recreate that each week.
This also doesn’t spell good news for Hal Robson-Kanu, who will drop down to third in the pecking order should another forward arrive.
