Championship boss speaks out on striker linked with West Brom switch

Watford boss Vladimir Ivic has responded to reports linking Troy Deeney with an exit to West Brom during this transfer window.

The Baggies had been linked with a loan switch to the Hawthorns, although the Albion’s top priority remains Huddersfield’s, Karlan Grant.

Deeney has yet to be involved this season in the Championship for the Hornets and has lost his captain’s armband at Vicarage Road.

Ivic claims any moves may not happen until the last minute, and he will continue to have discussions with the board over any possible exits.

“We don’t know until the last minute of the transfer window what’s going to happen,” he said via Birmingham Live.

“I will speak with the people from the board of the club who work on transfers on who will move, who will come and to be honest nobody of us knows, with some of the players, who will stay or who will move.

“Troy is the club captain. At this moment, Tom is the captain because Troy is out of the team.”

Steve Madeley shared an update on the Baggies striker pursuit on Friday, claiming Grant is the most likely option at this stage.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Madeley agreed with someone who claimed West Brom will gamble on signing Grant and leave Deeney as a back-up option if needed.

Ivic wasn’t sure on Deeney’s future and it appears if an offer was to come in from the Baggies, they would surely accept.

Deeney isn’t playing, and he may not be happy with Championship football – he wouldn’t be a bad back-up option if the Grant deal continues to be difficult.
