‘Absolute nonsense’, ‘In the bin’ – Many WBA fans baffled by ‘random’ transfer update
West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to express their bemusement at their club being linked with a move for Andros Townsend.
According to The Sun, Albion are eyeing up a potential £6 million raid for the 29-year-old in the late stages of the transfer window.
But the deal could be derailed by the Eagles’ apparent desire to hang on to the wide man.
Regardless of if a deal can go ahead or not, however, many supporters have been left confused as to why the Baggies would be looking to snap up another winger.
Having already signed Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira this transfer window, and given the obvious deficiency that we have up top at the moment, you would assume that a striker must still be the priority for Slaven Bilic.
Given how tight funds have been at The Hawthorns this summer, it’s probably a fair to assume that we only have the capacity to bring in one more considerable addition this summer.
Even then, judging by the hiccups we’ve encountered in our pursuit of Karlan Grant, that could be a push.
With that in mind, prioritising a deal for Townsend over an out and out centre-forward is at best nonsensical speculation, and at worst, downright foolish from the club.
That’s not to say that we wouldn’t take the player at West Brom ordinarily, but right now, we have to be pragmatic about what this squad requires most.
