Report – West Brom enquire about 25y/o danger man, eight-figure asking price set
West Brom have enquired about the availability of Espanyol striker Raul de Tomas, according to Spanish publication AS.
The Baggies are desperately trying to bring in a new danger man before the transfer window shuts, with Huddersfield Town forward Karlan Grant understood to be a priority target.
But it would appear that Albion are keen to give themselves a variety of options.
As such, they have reportedly asked about the availability of 25-year-old de Tomas.
The striker only joined Espanyol from Benfica in January, but could be on the move again after the Catalan club were relegated from La Liga.
It is understood, however, that his current employers are not willing to loan out the player, and would instead only consider selling him.
A fee of just over £27 million has been touted.
We can tell you right now, straight off the bat, that if Espanyol are looking for £27 million for de Tomas, there is categorically no way that this deal will happen.
West Brom are desperate for a new striker, yes, and it makes sense that they are enquiring about a number of potential options.
But the Baggies are also short on cash, and at no point this summer have they ever had best part of £30 million to spend on a player.
The other issue here is that de Tomas’ record is hardly astounding.
He hit just four goals in 14 league outings in Spain last season, including 11 starts, and it speaks volumes that Espanyol seem relatively open to letting him go.
This is not exactly a thrilling update, but even if it was, we can’t see it happening.
