Athletic journo claims it is ‘increasingly possible’ West Brom player will leave club

It is looking “increasingly possible” that Charlie Austin will leave West Brom for Derby County before the end of the transfer window, according to The Athletic journalist Steve Madeley.

The Baggies striker has emerged as a target for the Rams in recent days, with the 31-year-old entering the final year of his deal at The Hawthorns.

Madeley has also suggested that Sheffield Wednesday are still interested in Kenneth Zohore, after a prolonged pursuit of the player.

While the transfer deadline passes at 11pm this evening, the domestic window in England does not shut until October 16th, meaning both deals could be completed even if they are not wrapped up today.

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Madeley said: “Looking increasingly possible that Charlie Austin will leave for Derby while Sheffield Wednesday are still keen on Kenneth Zohore but, again, neither of those deals with EFL clubs necessarily need to be completed today.”

There are still so many uncertainties surrounding West Brom at the moment, and the vast majority of them involve who will be leading the line for them come the end of the transfer window.

In another tweet to his personal account, Madeley claimed that Huddersfield Town’s Karlan Grant is still the priority for Slaven Bilic’s men, but also identified Troy Deeney and Andre Gray as two players that are on the radar who can move after tonight’s first deadline.

With that in mind, there could still be some merit to getting Austin, Zohore, or both of the wage bill.

Albion have short of finds all summer, and any money they can free up to help them complete a deal for the striker they need to fire them to safety would be a major, major boost.
