‘Rubbish’, ‘Last thing we need’ – Many WBA fans urge club not to sign newly available 28y/o
West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to quash the prospect of their club signing Jack Wilshere.
The 28-year-old midfielder terminated his contract with West Ham by mutual consent as the transfer window came to a close, and is now on the hunt for a new club.
But many Baggies are not keen on the idea of him pitching up at The Hawthorns.
Predominantly, the main concern that seems to surround a potential move – and it is worth reiterating that there is no reported interest in Wilshere as yet – is his dire injury record.
The player himself claims that he has been fully fit for eight months, but there is no getting away from the fact that his injury history is absurdly long.
According to Transfermarkt, Wilshere has missed 1,423 day through injury over the course of his career – just shy of four years.
That means that he would be a big risk, no matter which way you look at it, and it’s only accentuated by the astronomical £100,000-a-week wage bill he was wracking up at West Ham.
Obviously, you would assume that he will have to take some kind of pay cut to secure himself a new deal at a different club, but even at half that amount, he would be a costly addition.
West Brom aren’t exactly flush at the moment, and it still feels like any funds they do have must be focussed into signing a new striker.
If we’re being honest, we would have to pass on Wilshere.
