West Brom & Aston Villa lock horns in battle to sign international striker valued £10m – reports

West Brom have set their sights on a stunning swoop to sign Bournemouth striker Joshua King, according to The Mirror.

The newspaper claims that Manchester United and Tottenham have cooled their interest in 28-year-old King, which has left the Baggies to lock horns with Aston Villa in a battle to sign the Norway international.

Kevin Phillips has exclusively told West Brom News that Albion should “seriously consider” a move to sign King, who is in the final year of his contract at the Vitality Stadium.

According to The Sun, the former Blackburn forward has been made available for £10million due to his contract situation but even that sum of money might be too steep for West Brom, who’ve spent the bulk of their meagre transfer budget already.

TalkSPORT broadcaster Geoff Peters offered an update on King’s situation on the south coast on Monday, saying that “a number of Premier League clubs” have made enquiries for the Norwegian forward.

Peters added that Bournemouth are “willing to accept an offer based on instalments to get him off the wage bill”.

Let’s hope that West Brom are seriously considering a move for King because the Bournemouth forward would be a superb addition to Slaven Bilic’s strikeforce.

King scored 48 goals in 161 Premier League appearances for Bournemouth before they were relegated last season and at the age of 28, there is still plenty of time for the Baggies to get their money’s worth out of him.

Funding a move for King is not going to be easy but if the reports about a £10million valuation and Bournemouth’s willingness to accept a structured deal are true, Luke Dowling might be able to find a way to lure a proven top-flight striker to The Hawthorns before the domestic transfer window closes on October 16.

In other West Brom news, this is why Conor Gallagher was missing for Albion’s defeat to Southampton.
