Callum Robinson: West Brom fans would’ve helped us cling onto lead v Chelsea

Callum Robinson has said that having no crowds in Premier League stadiums ‘isn’t helping’ West Brom, and admits he ‘takes fans for granted’.

The last time the Baggies played in front of a crowd was in March’s 0-0 draw away at Swansea, as West Brom had to try and get promoted without the support of their fans at games.

Speaking to Extratime.com, ahead of his country’s UEFA Nations League games, Robinson spoke of how Baggies fans could have made the difference in West Brom’s Premier League game against Chelsea this season.

He said: “With West Brom, we’re back in the Premier League and the fans would be roaring us on and celebrating and helping us along the way which isn’t happening at the moment,

“You take the fans for granted when you’re scoring goals or getting draws with Chelsea at The Hawthorns. For instance, that Chelsea game they come back into it and got the three goals but you could say if there were fans roaring us on to keep going that might not have happened.

“We have to just keep playing and keep working hard during these uncertain times.”

There haven’t been any fans at the Hawthorns since the Baggies’ 3-2 loss to Newcastle in the FA Cup on March 3, with fans having to watch their side get promoted from home.

Of course, the disadvantage of not having a home crowd is the same for every club in England. But fans can be so important to sides who are fighting against relegation, and the early signs this season suggest that the Baggies will be scrapping to avoid the drop this term.

Like Robinson said, perhaps if there was a full crowd at the Hawthorns during the Chelsea game, then the Baggies would have managed to hang on for three points. His example shows how West Brom may miss fans more than most clubs this season.

The Baggies will look to secure their first Premier League win of the season at an empty Hawthorns when they take on Burnley after the international break, who sit just one place below West Brom in the table.
