‘It’s extremely difficult’ – Bilic makes admission about WBA defeat v Southampton
Slaven Bilic has highlighted where his West Brom side will look to improve over the international break ahead of their Premier League tie with Burnley.
West Brom are yet to pick up their first win of the Premier League season and turned in a disappointing performance in their 2-0 loss to Southampton last weekend. Following the game, Bilic spoke of where his side needs to improve.
As quoted by BirminghamLive, the Baggies boss said his side need to be ‘more aggressive’ on the whole and says West Brom will use the international break to ‘improve everything’.
Bilic said, “It’s a good time, we have to use any time we have to improve. We have to become a team that is more aggressive and works hard – that was lacking at Southampton. And in my point of view, everything starts with that. We are going to rest for a couple of days but there is no learning process.
“In the games before Southampton, we showed that aggression. We need to stretch that out over 90 minutes. It’s extremely difficult to speak about the Southampton game because it wasn’t just in one area where we were lacking and everything else was right.
“They were quicker, they were sharper and they were better on the ball. Their aggression was better than ours so we have to improve in everything. We’re going to use this time to work on things and improve everything.”
The Baggies have a decent run of fixtures after the international break, with games against Burnley, Brighton and Fulham to see out October. All three clubs sit in the bottom six of the Premier League table and even though it’s early days in the season, these are the games West Brom need to win if they are to stay up.
Burnley and Fulham are yet to pick up any points this season and present possibly the easiest opportunity for Bilic’s side to get some more points on the board.
The Baggies’ start to the season wasn’t the easiest, with games against last season’s top six sides Chelsea and Leicester, as well as a rejuvenated Everton. But there were some positives to take from these games, mainly the performances of Grady Diangana and Matheus Pereira.
The two wingers could cause major problems for the leaky defences of Burnley and Fulham, and Bilic will be looking to them to make the difference, with a new striker still yet to arrive at the Hawthorns.
In other West Brom news, Albion are in talks to sign this 28-year-old international striker.
