Report – West Brom failed with deadline day raid for 28y/o South American hitman

West Brom failed with a deadline day loan bid for Real Sociedad striker Willian Jose, according to Mundo Deportivo

The Baggies are in the hunt for a new striker as they look to bolster their Premier League survival prospects.

But after failing to seal a new arrival before the international transfer window shut on October 5th, Albion will have to focus their attentions solely on domestic targets.

They did, however, reportedly make a late play for 28-year-old Brazilian hitman Jose.

The Spanish publication suggest that the Baggies were one of a number interested sides, with Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Ligue 1 side Marseille also keen.

Both the Baggies and Spurs are said to haver submitted loan bids for the player, but Mundo Deportivo suggest that the South American was uninterested in anything other than a permanent move.

It’s a little hard to fully decipher how much truth there is in this one.

Given the obviousness of West Brom’s striker pursuit, there’s every chance that this is simply a case of seeing an available forward, seeing a club who need one, and putting two and two together.

That possibility is certainly made all the more likely by the fact that Albion have seemingly been fixated on Karlan Grant for some time.

Even as recently as Thursday, Joseph Masi of the Express and Star reported that West Brom have submitted a £6 million offer with an obligation-to-buy for the Huddersfield Town man.

Whether that will be enough remains to be seen, but we’re certainly at a point where the Baggies are quickly running out of options.
