West Brom take big stride towards signing new centre-forward, agreement seems close – report

West Brom appear to be close to an agreement with Huddersfield over a deal to sign centre-forward Karlan Grant, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claims that the Baggies are “confident” of landing the 22-year-old striker before the domestic transfer window slams shut next Friday after Slaven Bilic made the ex-Charlton player his top target.

It is understood that Huddersfield wanted £17million for Grant but it seems they and West Brom have established common ground as a structured deal will reportedly benefit both clubs.

West Brom have had to wheel and deal in this transfer window after Bilic and Luke Dowling were handed a measly £25million transfer budget to improve the squad with.

Most of that budget has gone towards re-signing Grady Diangana from West Ham in a club-record deal while Matheus Pereira, Callum Robinson, Cedric Kipre, David Button and Branislav Ivanovic have also been brought in on permanent deals. Filip Krovinovic and Conor Gallagher have been signed on season-long loans with no permanent clauses.

The big one for the Baggies is to sign a new striker and while they will more than likely get a deal done before the transfer window closes for good until January next week, Grant isn’t the only forward who’s reportedly on Bilic’s radar.

The Daily Mail has added that Bournemouth and Norway striker Joshua King is also a wanted man at The Hawthorns.

At this stage, a deal for Grant seems more likely for West Brom to complete but it’s possible that the Baggies’ interest in King has led to Huddersfield softening their stance amid fears over losing out on money for a striker who is yet to play this season.

In other West Brom news, Albion are in talks to sign this 28-year-old international striker.
