Express & Star journo: West Brom will not be signing this Ch’ship striker

West Brom are not pursuing a deal for Bournemouth striker Josh King, according to the Express and Star journalist Joseph Masi.

The local publication reported earlier this week that the Baggies were one of a number of sides looking into the possibility of signing the Norway international before the domestic transfer window shuts on October 16th.

A number of other Premier League teams are understood to be chasing the 28-year-old’s signature, with West Ham named as one potential suitor by a recent piece in The Telegraph.

But it is now understood that Albion have cooled their interest in the forward, and are unwilling to pay the £90,000-a-week wage packet that King is believed to be seeking.

The Express and Star also state that the Baggies are now expected to wrap up a deal for either Karlan Grant, Andre Gray, or Troy Deeney before the domestic deadline passes next week.

Truthfully, this probably isn’t too much of a surprise.

After all, any potential move for King looked to have hit a snag when The Athletic journalist Simon Johnson suggested that the player is looking to play at the “highest level” this season, and would ideally like to join a club where he could play European football.

Evidently, that is not something we can offer him, and it would appear that we’re not too keen on offering him the exorbitant salary he is looking for either.

Given how frugal the Baggies have been for much of this summer, that’s hardly shocking, and at the very least, we should take solace from the fact that this latest update seems fairly certain that we will get a striker in some form or another through the door.

King may be gone, but the hunt for a hitman goes on.
